Mr. W, this is really straightforward and very thorough. I have a couple of questions:

1. Do you have preferences for how student understanding would be assessed?

2. How well does this reading list correspond with resources already available in the book room at MCA?

3. Six 6-week sessions sounds like a full year of classes. Is this something that should align with a semester long class (for example, H5 won't have 36 weeks to get through the reading selections listed, it will only have Sept-January)?

4. I would like to align the readings for H5/H6 more with the classroom content in US History. I usually finish H5 with the Civil War and Reconstruction, and then begin Industrialization and Immigration at the beginning of the Spring semester. Are you open to suggestions for changes?

Thanks for putting this out there! It's a great place to start discussions about how to integrate social studies and language arts, and I think it is exactly what each of us needs to bring to our meeting next week.

Best, Alex

Hi: It is great to see this online discussion on curriculum and planning. Lionel, Did you remove the link to your Integrated Curriculum..? I did not see the original post. Alex in response to your third question about semster long classes , our classes are going to be annualized so we can plan year long curriculum.I will be sending another invitation to the Blogg to the faculty but if any of you speak to any members of the staff please ask them to check out the Blogg.

Lennel, Mr. Williams' integrated curriculum separates H5 and H6 (for example) and offers six six-week "sessions" for each course. Either the time per session must be reduced so that six sessions can fit into a semester, or the number of sessions must be reduced.
